Canady Hybrid Plasma Technology

Canady Hybrid Plasma technology uniquely combines argon plasma gas with monopolar electrocautery energy to simultaneously and precisely cut and coagulate tissue at a significantly lower temperature than conventional electrosurgery devices.

We believe that our single-use, disposable Hybrid Plasma products improve surgical procedures and patient outcomes by enabling surgeons to substantially reduce blood loss and the need for hemostatic agents and blood transfusions during and after surgery, resulting in better patient outcomes, lower operating time and cost savings to hospitals and payors.

Our Hybrid Plasma devices were approved and launched in the United States in 2014 and are currently being used in over 100 hospitals in a wide variety of orthopedic, breast, spine, neuro, plastic and oncology surgeries. To date, we believe our devices have been used in over 35,000 surgeries.

Canady Plasma® XL-1000 SMART Electrosurgical Generator

The XL-1000 replaces our previous two-unit electrosurgical system, combining the utility of a standard electrosurgical generator, a plasma coagulator and a computer into one single unit.
The XL-1000 is the next generation of smart electrosurgical generators using our patented Canady Hybrid Plasma TM (CHP) technology and controlled through the built-in Graphical Integrated Management Surgical System (GIMSSTM OS).

The GIMSS Operating System supplies the user with an easy-to-use graphical interface through a large hi-definition touchscreen, features 16 built-in surgical procedure “apps”, has the ability to program and store up to 400 surgeon profiles, and more…

Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel with Accessories

USMI is the first medical device company in the world to introduce a hybrid plasma scalpel blade in surgery. The Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel (CHPS) blade is multifunctional, with modalities for conventional cutting and coagulation, argon plasma coagulation, and the proprietary CHPS simultaneous cut and coagulation modality. With the Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel the surgeon is able to open the skin without a traditional scalpel blade and perform an entire operation with one electrosurgical device.

Canady Plasma® Probes

Our endoscopic catheter flexible probes are disposable medical devices used in surgical procedures to cauterize bleeding. USMI argon plasma endoscopic Straight Fire and Side Fire probes have been initially used in open surgery, endoscopic and pulmonary procedures. Applications of the probes can be used in a variety of treatments including but not limited to the ablation of Barrett’s Esophagus, Radiation Proctitis, and Bariatric Overstitch.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Less blood loss

A clinical study by Dr. George Guild has shown, “the use of the hybrid plasma scalpel resulted in significantly less blood loss and transfusions than the bipolar sealer. Additionally, patients treated with the hybrid plasma scalpel had significantly shorter operative times and reduced hospital length of stay.”

Minimal depth of injury

The Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel can deliver a precise beam less than 1.0mm in diameter and a depth of injury as low as 0.1mm.2

Orthopedic Surgeon – Torrance, CA

Benefits to Surgeons

The reduced temperature of the Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel tip means less tissue injury.

No tourniquet required for knee joint replacement.

Significant reduction in post-operative drainage

Benefits to Patients

Less tissue injury amounts to less post-op pain, decreased swelling and quicker patient healing.3

Patients experience faster recovery rates allowing them to return to their normal lifestyles in less time.3

We believe that the Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel is the most advanced multifunctional electrosurgical handpiece in the world. It provides the following features and benefits over alternative scalpel technology.

Features of Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel

  • The Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel simultaneously cuts and coagulates biological tissue.
  • Interchangeable, varied-length tips for versatility and hard to reach areas for a wide range of clinical specialties.
  • Ergonomically designed handpiece for comfort and ease of use.
  • Supports four operating modes: Hybrid Plasma™, Conventional Cut and Coagulation, Argon Plasma Coagulation.
  • Performs at Room temperature (98° F).

Benefits to Patients

  • Less blood loss. A Clinical study has shown that the Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel “resulted in significantly less blood loss and transfusions than the Aquamantys Bipolar Sealer.” This translates to decreased transfusion rates.
  • Shorter Operating Time / Reduced Post-Operative Stay. Clinical studies have shown that “patients treated with the hybrid plasma scalpel had significantly shorter operating times and reduced hospital length of stay.†”

Benefits to Physicians

  • The reduced temperature of the Canady Hybrid Plasma™ Scalpel tip means less tissue injury.
  • Depth of tissue injury is less than 0.2mm, potentially leading to quicker patient healing and less post-op pain, less scar tissue, and decreased swelling – this is significantly less than traditional cautery and bipolar sealer device.
  • No tourniquet required for knee joint replacement.
  • Significant reductions in postoperative drainage.

Benefits to Hospitals and Payors

  • One multifunctional handpiece capable of simultaneously cutting and coagulating tissue eliminates the cost of multiple instruments.
  • Reduces the use and incurred cost of hemostatic agents such as Floseal, Surgiflo, etc.
